Headline news in Halima's Life

1) as shown the result of my sociology mock exams in which only like 8 people turned up
--i did study, i cannot say i did not
as i did read the answers
once when i first printed it out
another time, on the way to school(even that i did not manage to finish it)

6) im sure by know many of you would have seen/read about the advert done by NUS Business School
if you have not read nor seen the ad, where have you been?
it is seriuosly cheesy.
im not putting down Singapore's education system or the university itself but seriuosly, why would anyone in their right mind chose NUS( #92) over schools like Wharton(#1) or even
Chicago(#6)?
if they had shown any other universities whose ranking are comparable to NUS, say those
within the range of 85-95, then it would be more plausible, but NUS over Wharton or Sloan: its
way too much.
its good that NUS has ambition, but take it step at a time, else it will be seen as a joke..as it is
now, looking at the comments poste in relation to the ad.
and the comment about guys being way too cute?
which part of one's course requirement states that it requires cute guys to be present?
in what way does presence of such guys actually aid in the attainment of the certificate one is
after?
and it has been said the comment was made in the name of fun, for light-heartedness, that has
been shown not to be the way people watching the ad percieves it and does NUS really want
such a superficial image attached to it?
how would such an image help them attain higher world ranking?
looking at other universities who are indeed good and reputable universities, have they come
with such ads?
there are more ways than one to gain recognition and cheesy ads are not the way to go.

ok shall blog more about DVC(Da Vinci Code) n also poseidon
well dvc is an adaptation from a book
so knowing tht n also
from previous exp on bad n good adaptations
i wen in with barely any expectations
n try to devoid myself of all the hype
after all hype is juz hype
n also i read the book like 3 yrs ago
but its still kinda fresh in my mind
so i din expect a fantabulous movie as some of my frens did
anw as usual its the tried n tested formula of movies
missed out on certain parts of the book
budden without all the lenghty explanation
one cud easily get lost esp if one has not read the book
the hype blew the christianity part out of proportion
but basically the movie is about
a thiller on the killing of a museum curator
if u look at it this way
its a good movie
but if its purpose is to rock the foundations of christianity
i say it did a poor job of it
the book is more compelling
the movie is a poetic lisence twice used
once by the book to make a compelling story for readers
n another by the movie to gain mass appeal
but due to the nature of which the movie is based on
it kinda backfired to a certain extent
the characters are somewhat in line wif the book
esp silas
hes obsession wif wat he believes in
n the things he shud do
makes u actually believe in his character as the obsessed monk
however the part by langdon n neveu is a bit off
the chemistry is sadly lacking
n wasn sophie's grandad really her grandad
not a fake one?
hmm......
well all in all
in view of the adaptation category it falls in
i gif it 3.5popcorns out of 5
the books gets 4.5 popcorn
the 0.5 i minus for being a tad confusing in the middle(hahahahah)

another hollywood movie
thts adapted from a true story
diff frm dvc adaptation frm a book
anw the movie lived up to the adventure
genre in which its in
wif superb
visual effects n all
but sadly lacking in emotional likage wif the audience
n at times shows its typical and unmistakable hollywood style in it
for tht i gif it 3 popcorns out of 5
emotional linkage to me
ill gif it 3.5 popcorn

wat is deviance
deviance=crime??
well lets see now deviance is the violation of a norm
wat is a norm?
its a socially constructed rules of wat is acceptable behavior
n a violation of this set rules is conseidered a deviant behavior......
how does deviant relates to crime
crime is when u break a set laws
usually set by the goverment....n usually is of a more serious behavior
for eg.....a girl with short hair
she is considered a deviant as she doed not haf the normal features of a female ie. long hair
but u dun c anyone with short hair being arrested do u?...no why?
coz it aint a crime to have short hair
however if u vandalise a property...u will b arrested as the act is punishable by law
n you will indeed be considered a deviant
how is deviant a social canstruct?
different social groups consider diff behavior to violate the norms n thus acceptable behavior in one group may be deemed as deviant in another
for example...you may have seen the bangladeshe males holding hands openly in spore
some in fact many ppl consider this behavior a violation of our social norm
as we dun normally see nor issit in our culture fo such an act to take place
however the brotherhood among them is very strong and such action are more of brotherly love than anything else
deviance may also b a normal behavior tht is against the norm or wat people perceive as norm
for eg..masturbation....many hav done it but no one would really come out n openly declare thet one has done it
in fact many perceive it as being abnormal tht there is something wrong if one has to 'resort' to masaturbation......thus they do not openly state tht fact for fear of being termed as a deviant
one may say 'things like this are best left behind closed doors'
the media also plays an imporyant part in constructing deviace
how they do this is by highlighting the particular act in the various media agents and usually oin a negative light as deviance usually has a negative conotation attcahed to it
thus the perpetutaion of such a behavior will press upon the viewer tht such action are not socilaly accepted and thus the idea takes root n begins its self fufilling properchy
one who has been labelled a deviant then takes the effort to emulate the form of the deviance
even in deviance there are norms n rules to follow to b accepted in to the community
for eg...when i was in sec sch...sec 4 there was this butch wannabe why i say wnnabe?
coz although she has the outer features(ie hair n dressing)
she violated one norm in the butch community
that is sitting wif the legs cross utop a chair..like the feminine females
here she was ostracized by the 'straight' femals in the school
coz she is like a butch.....n also ostracized by the butch community as she acts rather feminine as well
media can also result in a deviant behavior to b a norm
ie by making it seem very normal n happening all around
as said a girl with short hair mayb looked at as deviant before
but now with the increased no of ppl (celebrities) sporting short hair...this becomes noramlised
it does not seem weird anymore
